What the Rio Grande Valley Can Expect During the Solar Eclipse

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas - First, the solar eclipse will begin at 11:46am in the Rio Grande Valley. It will peak at 1:13pm and end at 2:40pm.

We will experience a partial eclipse up to a 0.59 Magnitude. This means at the peak of the eclipse, 59% of the Sun will be in the moon’s shadow. This also means that 41% of the sun will be visible and it also means that the sun’s shadow will take longer to move across the Valley.

WARNING!
Talk to your children.Do not look directly at the eclipse without the proper eye wear.
Permanent and complete blindness can occur by looking directly at the sun.
Looking directly into the sun can cause the eye’s lens to become damaged, causing spots, distortions or loss of contrast in your central vision.
Do not look at the eclipse through a telescope or binoculars without the proper filters or eye protection.
Binoculars and telescopes can act as a magnifying glass causing even more eye damage.
UV rays can literally cook your eyes. Polarized sunglasses will not protect your eyes looking directly into the sun.

BE SAFE!
Only view the eclipse with adult supervision and then only with the proper eye protection.
