UTRGV Medical School Help Colonia Residents

EDINBURG, Texas - The UTRGV School of Medicine helping less fortunate families by offering free health care services.

The medical school sent a team out to a colonia in Alton to serve more than 1,500 residents. The team of resident medical students provided comprehensive physical exams to those who are not able to visit a clinic. Very soon UTRGV says it plans to expand the services offered.

Linda Nelson - Director of Clinical Operations said, "Soon we'll be offering women's healthcare with pap smears on a regular basis. We're in the process of working with community partners for mammograms. We're doing oral health and hope to soon have dentistry in the van. We're waiting to soon sign up our first dentist."

The UniMovil Medical team just came back from Houston after helping victims from the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.
