EDINBURG, Texas -
The UTRGV Department of Biological Sciences will host a seminar Feb. 17 featuring speaker Scott C. Weaver, Ph.D., John Sealy Distinguished University Chair in Human Infections and Immunity at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
Weaver, who is director of the Institute for Human Infections and Immunity and scientific director of the Galveston National Laboratory, is globally recognized for his expertise in mosquito-borne diseases. He will present on the topic “Emergence of Zika Congenital Syndrome in the Americas.”
Weaver will discuss the origins of the virus and its spread, recent research regarding Zika virus control and therapies, as well as the risk of further transmission within the United States and strategies to address its spread.
