Suspect in Criminal Attempted Murder Case Turns Himself In

EDINBURG, Texas - Sheriff's Investigators have arrested suspect Arturo Gomez Zermeno in connection with a shooting in rural Mission.

Around 11:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies responded  to Cardinal Delta Street located north of 7 Mile Line on Iowa Road in rural Mission. A 45 year old male victim with a gunshot wound to the head was found.

The victim is identified as 45-year-old Rogelio Rangel. He was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The sheriff's office identified Zermeno as the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. The incident is believed to be a result of an argument between Zermeno and his uncle [Rocha]. The argument escalated and Zermeno shot his uncle in the head.

Late in the evening on May 17, 2017 Zermeno turned himself in to authorities. He was taken before Justice of the Peace Jaime Munoz, where he was arraigned. Zermeno is on a $50,000 cash surety bond and confined to the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.
