MCALLEN, Texas - Health Grades, one of the leading online resources for information about doctors and hospitals has ranked several valley hospitals among the best in the state.
Dr. Thiendella Diagne from Edinburg Regional Medical Center said, "Basically what we try to do in south Texas is just to improve health care as much as we can. We really don't look for recognition. We really do it for the patient."
The patients agree. Mcallen Medical Center and Edinburg Regional Medical Center earned 5-star ratings for Quality Excellence in Women's Services. Patients like Laura Palacios said it's the positive reviews that attracted her to Dr. Diagne and South Texas Health System.
"Everything that I was feeling, he took the time to explain the surgery that we had opted to have. So he was just great all around."
Mcallen Heart Hospital earned one of the best 50 hospitals in America for Cardiac Surgery.
Dan Caldwell, CEO of McAllen Heart Hospital said, "We don't worry as much about trauma or orthopedics, or other service lines. We really focus on heart. And that luxury of focus, gives us the ability to really get very, very good at what we do."
While recognitions like these are always an honor, medical officials say they're always working to improve and deliver the very best health care for the valley.
"We're in the process of investing in new and state of the art equipment. We just got a state of the art CT, the only state of the art CT in the Valley.” said Dan Caldwell.
Currently, McAllen Heart Hospital is in the process of acquiring new Cardiac Catheterization Labs. McAllen Medical and Edinburg Regional doctors say they are making it their goal to have the lowest rate of C-sections by next year.
