Salvation Army Continues Annual Tradition of Thanksgiving Meals

MCALLEN, Texas - The Salvation Army in McAllen continued its annual tradition of serving Thanksgiving meals to those in need.

More than 400 volunteers from schools and churches across the RGV participated in this year's event. The event fed more than 1,300 residents. The food came from donations, canned food drives, schools, churches, and local business. One of the organizers says this holiday is for everyone to celebrate with a meal.

Luis Melendez, Salvation Army Commanding Officer, "You'll get a lot of folks that their loved ones live south of the border, so they can't get together. You have some that their family members live way up north. Others, their resources don't allow them to prepare a Thanksgiving meal, so they come to the salvation army, there's no questions asked without discrimination, everyone is served, and we enjoy a happy day."

The Salvation Army will keep collecting food to prepare more meals for when Christmas comes around.
