Middle School Special Needs Students Receive Teddy Bears

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - A group of students at Garcia Middle School in Brownsville celebrated Valentine's Day early.

Down by the Border and the Order of the Alhambra donated more than 200 bears to students with special needs.

This is the fifth year that the group has given gifts to the students. On February 11, Down by the Border hosted a Valentine's Day dance at the bowling alley for special needs students.

Sergio Zarate – Down by the Border Spokesperson says, "We love doing it. We love to see their happy faces and smiles from them. And to let them know that we love them, our community loves them and that we're always looking out for them."

Zarate said he hopes the students have a good Valentine's Day like everyone else. The organizations delivered the gifts to all middle schools in BISD. 6th graders at Garcia Middle School hugged their bears, sat with them, named them and held them while they worked. This is the first time the students received a gift from the Down by the Border organization. They were very happy and excited.
