Local Students To Save Butterfly Species

MCALLEN,Texas - Students from Jackson Elementary begin a garden to attract butterflies.

This in hopes to increase the population over time.

With the help of the City of McAllen the school district received a grant that made this idea possible.

“We care a lot about our nature and butterflies are beautiful creatures and sometimes there’s a life cycle and they need these plants to survive. “said Chris Mendez a third grader.

“Our students are engaged and its outdoor learning space and its going to be something helpful for generations to come and this is the first of our 20-elementary school to take the challenge” said Dr. J.A. Gonzalez the superintendent for McAllen ISD
