John Feit's Fate Now In The Hands Of A Jury

EDINBURG, Texas - A jury is now behind closed doors deciding the fate of a former priest in a murder case that took place nearly 60 years ago. As the trial comes to an end, Irene Garza's family is hoping for closure.

The Irene Garza murder case was one that shook south Texas and the Rio Grande Valley after her body was found in a canal in April 1960.

Today state prosecutors calling John Feit a wolf dressed in priest's clothing.

"Waiting to attack. Attack once, waiting to attack again, and finally he got his prey." Said Assistant District Attorney Michael Garza.

During closing arguments this morning State Prosecutor Michael Garza addressed members of the jury and reminded them of the questionable encounters the defendant had with other women.

Tilly Sanchez for example. The church cook who testified hearing John Feit tell other priests they should take her down to the basement and make her disappear.

However, defense attorney Rene Flores asked jurors not to be distracted by the prejudice against his client. He continued saying there is no evidence against Feit that affirmatively links him to Garza's death. While Feit's viewfinder was found inside the canal where her body was retrieved, Flores told jurors to ask themselves why he would claim ownership if he were her killer. But the prosecution says that's not exactly true.

State Prosecutor told the jury, "I ask that you keep your word, and that you find John Feit guilty, because the evidence supports that."

Although John Feit is charged with murder jurors are able to find him guilty on a lesser charge of Aggravated Assault.
