Hurricane Dolly Survivor Heads To Harvey Hit Areas, "Get Off Your Backside, And Help People"

South Padre Island, TX - *update: Andy Hancock has begun helping those in need in the city of Rockport. He expects to stay as long as he can.”

Many in the valley are counting their blessings, as Hurricane Harvey’s wrath spared cities recovering from 2008’s Hurricane Dolly. The blessings have turned into action. "Texas is tough and Texans stick together and that is what we're going to do."Andy Hancock was born in Australia but his heart is with Texas and his job keeps him close to coast, "I'm a professional sand castle builder."

Andy survived Hurricane Dolly and witnessed firsthand just the millions of dollars in devastation.

His tools for work such as chain saws, cranes, truck winch and shovels became essential items for cleanup. "We did dodge a bullet... It helped us but it didn't help other people so we'll go help them"

He's waiting for Harvey to clear out and help those who have watched their homes crumble.

"If someone has a big ol’ lump of concrete or a big ol’ lump of something somewhere and they can't move it my winch can pull that away for them"

News Center 23’s Derick Garcia asked, “Is it as simple as lending a hand?” “Yes, yeah you just got to get up off your backside getting your truck go down there and help people." Responded Hancock.
