MCALLEN, Texas - Eight graduating seniors from PSJA ISD will be doing so with Associate's Degrees in Nursing.
They are the first group of students in the entire nation to receive a nursing degree, while in high school. The students were honored by Doctors Hospital at Renaissance. This was all made possible by the Nursing Career Pathway Program at PSJA ISD.
The district partnered with South Texas College and DHR to give students the proper training and education. One student said how much they sacrificed to get to this point.
Luis Silos, "This means a lot to me. It was a lot of hard work. We made so many sacrifices throughout the program. Some of the challenges were that I was away from my parents. I have not seen my parents for about two years and a half. Finally, I'm graduating, and it shows to me that it was worth it."
These students will now be able to work as registered nurses while finishing their Bachelor’s Degree at a university. Half of them will be moving on to UTRGV.
