Future of Conjunto Music Festival Uncertain

SAN BENITO, Texas -

The "26th annual conjunto festival has been cancelled.”

That's according to a statement found on the official Facebook page of the event Organizers.

Earlier this month, a response was issued by San Benito city officials, now some are uncertain about           the future of the iconic event.

The popular music genre of Conjunto is an iconic part of The City of San Benito.

This year, the city enters into negotiations with the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center for the use of public land and collaboration on the conjunto music festival.

This week the city released an official statement claiming they are "considering possibility of collaboration or joint partnership."  The city claims they own the buildings and grounds where the center is located and they also claim center's 20 year lease has expired.

We reached out to the Center for more information and they tell us that they will make an official response within the next 24 hours.

We did however found their official Facebook page claim that the city's press efforts are "inaccurate and inappropriate."

They are also urging the community to contact San Benito Commission.

The next commission meeting will be this upcoming Tuesday.
