PHARR, Texas - The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is celebrating its one millionth meal served in partnership with a company that makes health care products accessible to residents.
The food bank has been working with Water Tree Health for five years now, by offering a prescription drug discount card that's accepted at all major pharmacies.
Each time a resident uses the card, the company donates a meal to the food bank. The discount card provides residents with up to 75% in savings on medication costs, including pet meds.
Shane Powers, Water Tree Health President said, "Our whole mission is to make health care more accessible. We do that by making it more affordable, and then we also donate to help further impact the community. 65% of food bank clientele has to make a really tough choice between food and medicine every month. That's a choice we feel no one should have to make."
