Charges Upgraded for Alleged Spring Break Hit and Run Driver

South Padre Island, Texas - Charges for alleged hit and run driver, Daisy Joy Decker, 20, of Sugarland, Texas have been upgraded to Manslaughter. This comes after Maria Selena Patino passed away. According to South Padre Island, Decker was allegedly going north and veered into the pedestrian/bicycle lane and struck Patino and Secilia Leija at 1 a.m. Friday morning. Decker was arrested 15 hours later less than half a mile away from where the accident occured on Gulf Blvd and Oleander Street. Decker was arraigned on Sunday and charged with multiple counts of accident involving personal injury. However, Monday South Padre Island Police Chief Randy Smith confirmed those charges have been upgraded as Patino passed away. As of Monday, Secilia Leija remains hospitalized with serious injuries. If convicted of manslaughter, Decker faces 2 to 20 years in prison.

The Patino family has set up a donation page to cover funeral expenses and medical costs.
